The Science of Colour at The Core, Newcastle

The award-winning property management and consultancy company Creative Space Management are delighted to announce the second in their programme of in depth examinations of the science behind everyday topics – The Science of Colour - at The Core, Newcastle on 19 November 7pm – 8.30pm.

Toby Hyam, Managing Director of Creative Space Management says:

“One of the aims of Science Central is to bring together academia, business and citizens. This innovative series of talks looks at the science behind everyday topics, such as beer, bees and comic books, to ensure our programme is both entertaining and accessible.“

Delivered exclusively by Colour Group (GB) members, audiences are invited to join academic and practitioner members of Colour Group (GB) to celebrate their 75th year as ain interdisciplinary society that draws together people interested in all aspects of colour – its perception, measurement, reproduction and artistic expression.

GABRIELE JORDAN

From the Colour Neuroscience Department at Newcastle University audiences will hear about research into the superpower’Tetrachromatic Colour Vision’. Answering the question “Is the red I see the same as the red you see?” by exploring psychophysics, gender differences and colour-blindness.

VALÉRIE BONNARDEL

Are the associations between words and colour arbitrary or is there structure? If so, is this structure meaningful? Valérie, Department of Psychology at the University of Winchester, will explore the secret language of colours and what research has revealed about their role in non-verbal communications.

CARINNA PARRAMAN

From The Centre for Fine Print Research, UWEBristol, prepare to be amazed by 2.5D printing. Merging current 2D and 3D techniques, Carinna showcases the opportunities for new textures, unusual materials and specialist colours.

DANNY GARSIDE

Colour and light are intrinsically linked, and both play a crucial role in how we perceive and ‘enjoy’ the places and spaces around us. But how do we measure visual pleasantness? Colour Scientist and PhD candidate at UCL, Danny Garside, will present his research and answer this question.
