Silk Family Law ranked top in North East

Silk Family Law has retained its position as one of the North East’s top family law firms with a top tier ranking in legal guide Chambers UK for the fifth year running.

The latest edition of the legal bible describes the Newcastle-based boutique practice, which won Law Firm of the Year at the Northern Law Awards 2015, as ‘a leading outfit in the North East, handling complex, high value financial settlement disputes and international childcare placement matters’.

The Chambers UK guide ranks law firms across the UK based on extensive research, alongside feedback from clients. The 2016 edition highlights the Silk team’s expertise and ‘high value, cost effective and pragmatic legal advice, which undoubtedly places the best interests of the client at the heart of their work.’ It also says that the firm ‘benefits from having an experienced family law barrister on the team’.

Founded five years ago by barrister Ian Kennerley and solicitors Kim Fellowes and Margaret Simpson, Silk has offices in Newcastle and North Yorkshire. Ian is recognised in the 2016 guide as being ‘extremely experienced in his field’. Margaret Simpson’s ‘stellar reputation’ is noted for attracting ‘clients needing assistance with matrimonial finance matters from across the UK’, and her experience in cases involving land or agricultural interests is also singled out for praise.

Kim Fellowes’ ‘ability to take a strategic view of the issue and offer clear, precise and accurate advice’ is recognised in the 2016 guide, and solicitor Wayne Lynn is described as ‘an associate to watch’.

Chambers UK 2016 highlights Silk’s extensive experience and work with clients throughout the country on resolving financial disputes; complex tax issues and the valuation of business assets; child support and parental rights; and collaborative family law, which enables separating couples to resolve the issues of their divorce or separation without involving the courts.

Silk Family Law is the North East’s largest specialist family law practice and is the only firm in the area to offer access to advice and representation from an in-house barrister on a range of family law issues.
