Supported Living Success for Autism Care Company

Goldcrest House supports Health and Social Care Diploma students from Selby and Doncaster College by mentoring and guiding them through an on-site managed work experience programme.

Students Amy Douglas from Goole and Molly Brown from Gilberdyke, will be developing a portfolio of evidenced work whilst working with adult service users affected by Autistic Spectrum Disorder and learning difficulties.

Day to day the students will participate in delivering the home’s person centred activity schedule that provides all service users with an opportunity to engage in a task or experience that is beneficial to their development.

From arts and crafts, to exercise routines, and out and about in the community, Amy and Molly will fully participate, with supervision from a lead carer, to understand and learn on a practical level about the nuances of this specialist care.

Ralph Parish, Manager at Goldcrest House says: “We are very happy to be able to work with both colleges and their students. It’s extremely positive for me to see young adults coming through the system with ambitions to work in this sector. Working with adults with challenging behaviour can be extremely intimidating but to date both students have embraced this environment and the people with positive effect.”

Based on Boothferry Road Goldcrest House is a centre of excellence dedicated to addressing the individual needs of adults over 18 affected by Autistic Spectrum Disorder and learning difficulties. It provides residential care, supported living, long and short term respite care, day services and outreach to meet the varied needs of those who access the service 52 weeks a year; its aim is to be the UK’s quality service of choice.
