Infographic: the global recruiting trends of 2016

The report surveyed almost 3900 global talent acquisition decision makers in order to define the top trends that can be expected in 2016. The obstacles of attracting top talent

Every business faces challenges and global organisations appear to be facing a number of specific recruitment issues. The report indicated that there are three key problems that are causing businesses to struggle with finding new talent. Skills that are high in demand appear to cause issues as 46% of those surveyed found it difficult to source candidates from these talent pools. Equally, once talent has been found offering a competitive compensation package was a challenge for 43% of businesses. Alongside these issues 39% of businesses found that there were obstacles arising from external competition. By being aware of the trends for 2016 these challenges should be easier to manage.

The importance of quality hires

The urgency to fill roles has made businesses focus on how long it takes to fill a position, however the most valuable key performance indicator is still quality of hire. Performance evaluation is the preferred method of measuring quality of hire for 50% of those surveyed. However, 49% use turnover or retention statistics to evaluate quality of hire. 43% of businesses consider the satisfaction of the hiring manager as the best way to judge quality of hire. These methods all have merit however understanding how other businesses evaluate most effectively is incredibly valuable information.

The top sources of quality hires

Finding quality when hiring is of paramount importance, and the way that businesses source the best candidates has changed in recent years. 43% of those surveyed said that social professional networks were the most effective way of finding quality hires. Similarly, internet job boards were a key source for 42% of businesses. Employee referral programs appeared to also be an effective choice for 32% of those asked. Clearly a combination of information and online submissions will be an effective trend for 2016.

The importance of employer brand

Employer brand has become increasingly important especially with new social media channels evolving for business use. Employer brand is a top priority for 62% of the organisations surveyed. 59% of those asked also identified that having a proactive strategy for brand was important. A figure that seems set to continue growing is that 55% of businesses are investing more in employer brand compared to last year. Clearly employer brand will have a large impact on 2016.

The most effective employer branding tools

Knowing that employer brand will be an important aspect of recruitment in 2016 knowledge about the most effective branding tools is also key. Social media including Facebook and Twitter was the number one branding tool as 68% of those surveyed utilise it. Online professional networks such as LinkedIn were also important as 61% of businesses use them. Following these employer branding tools was the use of company website which 47% of companies make use of. Implementing these tools in business strategy for 2016 is certain to be beneficial

Who owns employer brand?

While big decisions about brand used to be the task of marketing teams the involvement of other departments has become a key aspect of successful recruitment. The survey showed that 47% of marketing departments now share responsibilities with talent acquisition decision makers. At 39% of businesses talent acquisition now contributes to managing employer brand. For 32% of businesses they have now even changed the responsibility for employer brand so much that talent acquisition actually owns it. Clearly the involvement of talent acquisition in employer brand is a trend that will remain prevalent in 2016.
