New role signals Yorkshire expansion for PK education

Sheffield supply teaching agency PK education has appointed primary school specialist Kate Thomson (26) from Chesterfield.

Education Consultant Kate joins the agency in a new role, managing the specialist staffing needs of primary schools throughout Sheffield City Region (Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Chesterfield). She joins from a global recruitment agency, bringing extensive experience to the new primary role at PK education.

The creation of the new primary specialist role follows PK education’s recent move from Sheffield’s Globe Works to larger premises in the City centre at St James’ House on Vicar Lane.

Commenting on her appointment Kate said: “I really enjoy the education recruitment industry and am very much looking forward to the challenge of developing PK’s primary specialism. The company is very hands-on and takes a personal approach to both candidates and schools; and this is important when dealing with the primary education sector as their needs are very different to those of secondary schools. They want locally-based, experienced teachers who are able to hit the ground running and think on their feet with minimal planning.

“The demand for supply teachers is far higher amongst primary schools. Because of this there are great opportunities for teachers currently in permanent positions who are struggling with the current workload and want to move into supply teaching for the better work-life balance it offers.”

Kate’s appointment is one of six made across the company’s five regional offices as part of its ambitious expansion plans in 2016. Established in Sheffield in 2005, the company has now grown to five offices in Newcastle, Sheffield, Nottingham, Birmingham, and Manchester placing hundreds of teachers, cover supervisors and teaching assistants in schools every day.

Outside work Kate enjoys spending time with her pet Chihuahua Buster and being out and about on her motorbike.
