Cygnet Law Helps Food Bank Get Wrapped Up For Christmas

Cygnet Law is helping Redcar Food Bank get it all wrapped up for Christmas by setting up a donation box at its office.

The legal firm is encouraging staff and clients to pop goodies into a collection box at its premises in the town’s West Dyke Road.

Peter Medd, a director a Cygnet Law, which specialises in legal matters relating to residential conveyancing, mental health, wills, divorce, inheritance tax planning, and divorce, said: “Many more families in the area will be struggling this Christmas in the wake of the job losses announced in recent months, in particular those connected with the steel industry.

“The food bank is a superb scheme and we hope that setting up a donation point at our offices will go some way to helping people cope financially at a time of the year when being in need comes starkly into focus.

“Our staff have chosen to support this worthy cause as it is one that people can really relate to because food is such a basic requirement.”

The food bank relies on non-perishable food to be donated by the public with people are referred to the bank through Social Services, Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Christians Against Poverty, Probation and various other organisations.

Mr Medd added: “We hope that people will donate some non-perishable goods with a festive flavour so that families who need to turn to the food bank have as good a Christmas as possible.”

Ruth Fox, Manager of Footprints in the Community, which is the umbrella charity that manages Redcar Area Foodbank, said: “It is wonderful to see the tradition of giving at Christmas is going to help families in Redcar who are struggling financially.

“Every donation is appreciated and we would like to thank Cygnet Law, its staff and clients for their support.”

She added the food bank was appealing for Christmas items such as crackers, Christmas puddings and Christmas cake to give out in December.

The best general items to donate are tinned and dried foods with a long shelf such as tinned veg, meats and milk puddings, pasta and pasta sauces, long life milk and fruit juices, tea, coffee, biscuits and sweets.
