Birmingham school receive £1k donation

Pupils at a Birmingham primary school will hit new heights by benefitting from two new climbing walls after being named a winner of a special community initiative run by a leading housebuilder.

Raddlebarn Primary School was selected as one of Persimmon Homes Central’s Community Champions, a scheme that awards £1,000 to further the charity’s work within the community. The project sees a pot of £24,000 donated to local groups and charities.

The Community Champions nomination was provided by Andy Hunt, a fundraiser for the Friends of Raddlebarn that supports the Selly Oak-based school.

He said: “We are thrilled to hear that Raddlebarn Primary School has been awarded £1,000 thanks to Persimmon Homes Central’s Community Champions scheme, with the money being of great benefit to everyone at the school.

“Persimmon’s kind donation has got the school to their fundraising target of £8,125 and will be put towards two new traverse climbing walls that will be installed at the school.

“The walls will get frequent use from the children during both school hours and other events and will no doubt provide hours of fun.”

Amanda Benjamin, head of sales at Persimmon Homes Central, said: “We are delighted to select Raddlebarn Primary School as the latest beneficiaries of our Community Champions initiative, helping them reach their fundraising target and purchase new climbing walls for the children.

“Persimmon Homes Central has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and it is always a tricky task to pick our winners each month.

“If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”

The housebuilder has a range of three and four bedroom homes available on its Martineau Gardens site in sought-after location in Harborne. The development boasts fantastic recreational amenities, a good selection of popular schools and an array of cultural activities to suit all tastes.

Community Champions is a year-long programme with £750,000 to be spread across the housebuilder’s 25 regions. Groups and charities who have already worked hard to raise funds themselves can apply for match funding of up to £1,000.
