Candelisa seek advise from law firm Gordons on market town developments

Yorkshire law firm Gordons is helping Skipton-based property developer, Candelisa, create new homes and renovate historic North Yorkshire market town buildings.

Candelisa has worked with Gordon’s on a number of projects in the past, including the company’s own office move, which have seen empty buildings and land transformed into living and work spaces.

Simon Mydlowski, a partner in the commercial property team at Gordons, has advised Candelisa on site acquisition and will provide ongoing advice in relation to site development and future plot sales.

Schemes include Providence Quarter, the former Skipton Building Society head office which was transformed into 39 apartments and sold out in three weeks, and Caroline House which is adjacent to Providence Quarter. Caroline House is being converted into two and three-bed apartments and also incorporates Candelisa’s new purpose built office. The building includes an indoor car park, entertainment and conference facilities.

Gordons has also advised on the proposed £2m refurbishment of the former Royd Hill Care Home in Sutton in Craven and the regeneration of Settle’s former police station and courthouse into new houses and apartments. The listed building, in Duke Street, has been empty since April 2012 when the police relocated to converted stables at the rear of the building.

Guy Taylor, Candelisa director, said: “We have been a client of Gordons for more than five years and always receive a first class service from the team there. Simon is able to advise on many aspects of property acquisition and development, covering off all eventualities, so that deals progress swiftly and efficiently enabling us to focus on getting our projects off the ground.

“In the past we have been very much focused on refurbishment and regeneration projects, whilst this will continue, we are keen to take advantage of the upturn in the property market and introduce our values and philosophies to new-build housing too.”

Candelisa is on site with several new-build housing developments across Yorkshire and is currently building a development of semi-detached family homes in Burnside Crescent, in Skipton, and has submitted plans for 39 new homes on land near Carleton in the town.

Mr Mydlowski commented: “It has been fantastic to work with Candelisa on these developments and the move into new build property will present new challenges for us to overcome. There is constant demand for new homes in these extremely desirable areas and it is great to see that Candelisa has been able to bring many old buildings back into use.”

Candelisa, which was formed by two architects, specialises in up-market schemes and the regeneration of historic buildings, boasting a varied portfolio, covering many sectors, from residential and retail developments to regeneration and investment projects.

Gordons has offices in Leeds and Bradford, employs 235 people and has a turnover of £22.9m.
