£25million and Counting – Fantastic Services Business Success
How much investment do you need to start a multimillion pound multinational corporation? If you’re anything like Rune Sovndahl, co-founder and CEO of Fantastic Services, the UK’s leading home assistant provider, the answer would be ‘two mobile phones and a laptop’. Launched in 2009 as a cleaning service, the company has moved from a two-person enterprise to an international organisation, with offices in the UK, USA and Australia, and a brand name which is becoming synonymous with quality reliable services.
This year the brand has reached an incredible milestone, with Fantastic Services’ UK arm alone topping a turnover of £25 million, having never once received any form of investment, other than the time, effort and dedication of Rune, his business partner Anton Skarlatov, and their enthusiastic team.
So what’s the secret of Fantastic Services’ success?
‘Hard work and perseverance,’ says Sovndahl. ‘As unlikely as it sounds, the business began when a glass of wine was spilled on a cream carpet. Finding it almost impossible to find a cleaner willing to come in for a one-off job I spotted a gap in the market and the idea for the company grew from there.’
And grow it certainly did. As well as cleaning, the brand now offers a variety of Fantastic Services, covering pet care, waste removal, pest control, building work, gardening and home removal, and the idea obviously appeals as the UK branch has generated more than 350,000 leads during the last 12 months alone, and upwards of 155k of those leads have turned into service bookings.
‘We may have started out small – as small as you get, really – but there are now more than 2,000 Fantastic experts and technicians and over 130 franchise partners in the UK,’ adds Rune. ‘Our UK base is mainly London-focused at present, but with 280 Fantastic branded cars on the road we’re able to cover a wider area every day, and the plan is to be able to offer our Fantastic Services nationwide in the coming months.
‘I always had faith in the company concept; everyone is time-poor these days, so a service that helps to take care of chores – whether on a one-off, or ongoing basis – was always going to be popular,’ comments Rune. ‘I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to accomplish so much in such a short space of time though. If we can come from nothing and hit a UK turnover of £25million in less than 6 years, I can’t wait to see what the next six bring!’
