Killingworth firm completes £1.2m furniture installation at Consett Academy
Godfrey Syrett has completed a £1.2m furniture installation at the new £43m Consett Academy, managed by Carillion Construction.
The Killingworth-based furniture firm designed, manufactured and installed fitted and loose furniture packages across the entire development, furnishing the academy which replaces Moorside Community Technology College and Consett Community Sports College.
Godfrey Syrett designers worked closely with appointed architects, Seymour Harris Architects, and inspiredspaces, a company set up by Carillion and its joint venture partners, to deliver educational transformation through the government’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.
Godfrey Syrett, which has manufacturing and distribution premises in Killingworth and Durham, was awarded the project as part of the Durham BSF programme, having been selected by Carillion on the previous new school builds within this round of BSF investment.
Richard Fox, design manager at Carillion said: “This has been a very exciting project to be involved in and we are delighted with the results. Godfrey Syrett has a wealth of experience of working on new build construction projects within the education sector and they have played a vital role in understanding and delivering our vision.”
He added: “The creative and highly bespoke furniture will be of great benefit to students and staff for years to come.”
Derek Mitchell, divisional director at Godfrey Syrett Education said: “We are extremely proud to have been involved in providing furniture solutions for the new Consett Academy. This project has been a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase what we do best in a landmark development close to our Durham manufacturing facility.
“Our team has worked in close partnership with Carillion Construction and their appointed architects, to ensure that all the furniture and finishes complement the style of this modern building and help create real-work environments.”
