Maxwell Hodge Solicitors Donates £1,000 to The Whitechapel Centre
One of Liverpool’s longest established independent solicitors, Maxwell Hodge, has pledged £1,000 to help homeless support charity, The Whitechapel Centre, continue its work in the city.
Maxwell Hodge team members, Events and Facilities Co-ordinator, Clare Druce, and Technical Services Assistant, Jake Rosenthal, visited the centre, which is situated on Langdale Street, to learn more about the charity’s activities and present the donation to Fundraising Manager, Ruth McCaughley.
The charity was nominated for the donation after Jake and other Maxwell Hodge staff noted a growing number of homeless people sleeping rough near the firm’s city centre office.
Jake commented: “With the weather getting colder, we noticed more people using the doorway to our Castle Street offices for shelter at night and just wanted to do something to help.”
The firm discovered The Whitechapel Centre, which offers food, washing facilities, advice and activities for service users, as well as aiming to provide homeless people with access to one of 800 free beds in hostels across the city that are available to homeless people, until they can find more stable living arrangements.
Simon Leyland, CEO at Maxwell Hodge Solicitors added: “The work that the team at The Whitechapel Centre undertakes is vital to people sleeping rough in the city centre. As well as providing the necessities, such as food, clothing and shelter, it encourages confidence building and rehabilitation through a wide range of activities, from five-a-side football and gardening to yoga.”
“We are proud to be able to offer some help with this donation and hope that it will enable the charity to continue its fantastic work.”
Fundraising Manager for The Whitechapel Centre, Ruth, said: “This donation, like each donation we receive, is incredibly important for The Whitechapel Centre and we would like to thank the team at Maxwell Hodge for choosing to support us.”
“We are a local charity and rely on support from the public and a great team of volunteers. This donation will go towards the continued provision of food, shelter and support for our service users.”
The Whitechapel Centre is open from 8am until 8pm daily. For more information on how you can donate or help in other ways visit http://www.whitechapelcentre.co.uk/
