Best Cities for a Pay Rise in 2016

Millions have resolved to find a new job in 2016 and most will be looking for a pay rise to go along with it. Latest data from the UK’s largest job site, CV-Library, reveals which cities have seen the strongest salary growth in 2015, uncovering where job hunters could consider searching for a pay rise this year.

Loiners, Sheffielders and Bristolians prove to be the best off when it comes to rising wages, with these cities seeing the biggest growth in advertised salaries in 2015 when compared with 2014. For those not sure about moving to Leeds, Sheffield or Bristol, here are the other cities that made the list of biggest salary hikes in 2015:

  1. Leeds – 4.7% growth
  2. Sheffield – 4.2% growth
  3. Bristol – 3.3% growth
  4. London – 2.5% growth
  5. Southampton – 2.1% growth
  6. Edinburgh – 1.8% growth
  7. Birmingham – 1% growth
  8. Manchester – 0.6% growth
  9. Exeter – 0.5% growth
  10. Cardiff – 0.2% growth

Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library comments: “It’s great to see that cities across the entire nation have seen a rise in advertised salaries and that salary increases aren’t concentrated in one particular region.”

In addition, a number of sectors saw a big salary increase over the same period. Meaning job hunters could also consider a career move to one of the ten sectors that experienced the top salary growth last year:

  1. Construction – 10.2% growth
  2. Retail – 5.9% growth
  3. Media – 5.7% growth
  4. Charity – 4.2% growth
  5. Automotive – 3.7% growth
  6. Property services – 3.4% growth
  7. Consulting – 3.1% growth
  8. Legal – 3% growth
  9. Hospitality – 2.6% growth
  10. Manufacturing – 2.4% growth

Biggins concludes, “Overall this all is good news for candidates looking for their next opportunity in 2016, and it’s exciting that UK employers are able to invest more heavily in finding the right talent for their business. Pay rises are being seen across the UK and its key sectors, and this is encouraging news for 2016’s job market.”
