This week’s Yorkshire appointments

Grant Thornton has marked the New Year with three senior appointments, representing a significant investment in the continued growth of its Yorkshire practice.

Dan Rosinke joins as a partner in transaction advisory services; Martin Barron joins as a partner in recovery and reorganisation; and Rachel Engwell as a partner in tax.

Dan joins Grant Thornton’s transaction advisory services team from Yorkshire Bank where he was head of specialist and acquisition finance (East England). Prior to his ten years working in the banking sector, he spent over nine years with PwC, the majority being in transaction services, before leaving in 2006 to join nabCapital. Dan’s 20 year career has seen him work with a wide spectrum of sectors and organisations from owner managed businesses to private equity-backed companies and multinational PLCs. He was also national head of construction for Yorkshire Bank.

With more than 20 years’ experience, Martin began his career in audit before transferring to restructuring when he joined PwC in 1996. He moved to Deloitte in 2000 and has been working in the Yorkshire region since 2003. Martin supports management teams, funders and other stakeholders in periods of financial and operational challenge.

Rachel joins from EY with whom she trained. She has over 16 years’ experience working in both the North West and, for the last six years, in the North East, and specialises in working with entrepreneurial and family businesses. She has spent the last four years as a tax director, advising both owner managed businesses, including those with private equity backing, and large private corporates across a variety of sectors. Her expertise includes advising on corporate, personal and transactions tax issues.

Shaun Lowry, LCF Law

Yorkshire law firm LCF Law has appointed Shaun Lowry as a consultant solicitor, specialising in construction, engineering, energy and projects.

Shaun has more than 20 years of experience working on both contentious and non-contentious issues. His areas of expertise includes advising on development finance and project documentation as well as dealing with dispute resolution for high street banks, local authorities, developers, contractors and a number of well-known retailers.

Shaun, who is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and an accredited mediator, said: “LCF Law is an outstanding Yorkshire firm, with an established reputation, that has significantly expanded its presence in the commercial property and construction sectors in recent years, which makes this an exciting time to join the company.”

Hayley Edwards, Newtons Solicitors

A solicitor from a national firm of family law experts has joined Newtons Solicitors as part of its continuing expansion.

Solicitor Hayley Edwards has joined the Family Law Team at Newtons Solicitor’s head office in Knaresborough.

Hayley Edwards qualified as a solicitor in 1994, and became an advanced Member of the Law Society’s Family Law Panel in 2002.

Commenting on her appointment, Hayley said: “I’m delighted to join Newtons Solicitors which has created a strong local reputation for quality legal services and become part of its fast-growing Family Law Team.”

Chris Newton, the firm’s founder and managing director, added: “Our Family Law Team is expanding rapidly and I’m delighted that Hayley Edwards has chosen to join us.”

Newtons Solicitors, founded by Chris Newton and his wife, Sarah, who is also a director, in 2009, also has offices in Darlington, Harrogate, Ilkley, Leyburn, Narthallerton, Ripon, Richmond, Stokesley, Thirsk and York.

Ben Craven, AMT Group

AMT Group, the Leeds-headquartered independent vehicle leasing and rental business, has appointed Ben Craven as a new area manager for the north for its vehicle rental division.

Ben has more than 15 years’ sales experience having previously worked for a range of blue chip companies including Vodafone and Scottish Power.

He will be based at the group’s Leeds head office and will be responsible for developing AMT’s presence in the north, with particular focus on the leisure, business and insurance sectors and supporting the development of the Manchester Stockport depot.

Andy Crinson, general manager of AMT Vehicle Rental, said: “Ben has a wealth of experience and his appointment will help build our market share in both the corporate and private client sectors.

“Ben’s people development and communication skills, combined with his understanding of the commercial landscape, will be of great benefit to the company as we build our presence across the North West with our recently launched Manchester Stockport depot next to the M60.”

The group also has a leasing division offering a substantial short term leasing fleet comprising all types of cars and commercial vehicles.

Established in 1995, AMT Group is a privately owned business employing 180 staff around the UK. It offers a complete automotive solution via its vehicle rental; short term lease; contract hire and leasing; and specialist cars divisions.

Paul Gill, Adept Civil and Structural Consulting Engineers

Leeds-based Adept Civil and Structural Consulting Engineers has appointed Paul Gill as an Associate Director.

Engineer Paul, who has 19 years’ experience, will be responsible for overseeing contracts and supporting project teams for a wide range of clients in the residential and commercial property, retail and healthcare sectors.

Paul will also be responsible for quality assurance throughout the business and for the mentoring of the firm’s interns and apprentices.

Adept is currently working on a number of projects including the UK’s largest distribution centre on the outskirts of Doncaster for retail giant Next, the £12 million refurbishment of Leeds Kirkgate Market, the £20million transformation of Gateway House into a 182-bedroom aparthotel with retail and office space in Manchester as well as a number of retirement living schemes for house builder McCarthy & Stone.

Adept was founded in 2007 and employs a team of 30 in Leeds, Manchester and London, predominantly working across the commercial, warehousing, retail, educational, healthcare, and residential sectors, providing a full range of civil and structural engineering solutions.

Wesley Snoad and James Sharp, John Holland

Sheffield prestige car dealership John Holland has added to its ranks with the appointment of two new staff members.

Wesley Snoad and James Sharp join as a buyer and a sales consultant respectively.

The appointment of Wesley sees the buying department of the company expand to five full-time employees, who all specialise in sourcing quality sports and prestige vehicles from throughout the country for the company’s showroom, which is based on Meadowhall Road.

Wesley previously spent eight years working for Audi, including six years as a sales manager at the manufacturer’s Ridgeway showroom in Oxfordshire, and has also worked for Land Rover and Peugeot.

James joins as a sales consultant. After starting at Harratts Volvo in Wakefield as a valeter at the age of 15, James remained at Harratts for 15 years, working his way up to the role of senior sales consultant. He worked at Ray Chapman Motors in York before returning to Harratts and then taking on his new role at John Holland.
