Solicitor becomes first MALE family mediator in Manchester

SALE-BASED solicitor Phillip Rhodes at law firm Slater Heelis LLP has become the first male in Manchester to become a fully qualified family mediator.

Mediation is a popular option for couples who separate because it can help reduce tension and hostility by allowing families to make decisions privately themselves rather than have decisions imposed on them by the courts.

Phillip Rhodes, associate at Slater Heelis LLP, said:

“Family mediation can be a more amicable and cost-effective route to reaching an early agreement than more traditional negotiations between solicitors or court proceedings.”

“Mediation is not a form of relationship counselling. It occurs after the relationship has already broken down and is a more sensible way for many people to agree what arrangements to make about finances, property and children.”

Phillip is now a Resolution-trained mediator and is also a Resolution-accredited specialist family lawyer. He is a committee member of Resolution, whose members comprise specialist lawyers and other professionals committed to the constructive resolution of family disputes. He is the only male mediator registered in the Manchester district.

Members adhere to a code of practice which promotes a non-confrontational approach to family disputes. He also sits as treasurer to the committee of Resolution (Manchester).
