Take the Firewalk Challenge this February
Newcastle-based charity, Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland are today inviting the public to walk across hot coals to raise much-needed funds for the year ahead.
The charity is hosting its first ever firewalk at the newly opened Crowne Plaza Newcastle Stephenson Quarter on Thursday 18 February 2016 and organisers are hoping to see up to one hundred people taking up the challenge to walk, bare foot, across embers reaching over 500 degrees Celsius!
Leading the event are Blaze Firewalking, a specialist team who hosted a live firewalk on popular children’s TV show Blue Peter for their first show of 2016 and who teach hundreds of people to walk across hot coals each year.
The charity, founded in 1978 is looking to the general public to join in this unique event, either walking or watching from the comfort of the Crowne Plaza.
Sue Pearce, CEO of Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland, said “We invite anyone with a sense of adventure to sign-up and take part. It’s just £25 per person, which includes a firewalk training session, the walk itself and some celebratory tea and cake afterwards!”
“One in four women will experience sexual violence at some point in their lives, which means the demand for our services, sadly, just keeps growing and growing. That’s why hosting fundraising events like the Firewalk are so important for us, all monies raised will go directly towards service provision this year.”
Anyone interested in taking part should visit www.rctn.org.uk or search Crowne Plaza Firewalk on Eventbrite, you will need to be available from 6pm - 10pm on Thursday 18 February 2016. Spectators are welcome and should arrive at the Crowne Plaza for 8pm.
