This week’s Yorkshire appointments

Barclays Business and Corporate Banking has announced a further three appointments to the Humber team.

Mark Waite has been promoted to Relationship Director within the Corporate team and will be responsible for businesses with a turnover in excess of £5m in the Hull area. Waite has worked in the Corporate division for six years as an Associate Director and is already well known in the Hull professional community.

Craig Ingram and Danny Scarr join the Business Banking team as Business Banking Managers looking after customers that have a turnover from £400k up to £5m and will operate from the flagship premises at Humber Quays covering the wider Hull district including Beverley and Brough.

Ceri Hill and Morigan Wilson, Sanderson Weatherall

Leeds-based chartered surveyor and property consultancy Sanderson Weatherall has strengthened its property management team with the appointment of two new surveyors.

Joining the firm is Ceri Hill as senior surveyor and Morigan Wilson as graduate surveyor who will add to the team of 14 working in the property management department.

Ceri joins Sanderson Weatherall from the Bauer Group, where she spent two years as portfolio manager. In her new role, her responsibilities include managing Sanderson Weatherall’s service charged buildings – single and multiple occupancy – and working closely with tenants, agent’s facilities managers and solicitors.

Morigan Wilson also joins Sanderson Weatherall’s property management team as graduate surveyor. After graduating from Northumbria University with a BSc Hons Degree in Estate Management, Morigan previously worked at Babcock International for one year in the property consultancy department.

In her new role, Morigan is responsible for independently managing a small portfolio of properties as well as assisting the team with all aspects of the department such as dealing with tenant queries, producing client reports and raising service charge demands.

Sanderson Weatherall employs around 200 people, has a turnover of £14m and operates nationwide from offices in Newcastle, Teesside, Darlington, York, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, London, Bristol and Exeter.

Elizabeth Harrison, Damian Slingsby and Russell Holt, Reward Finance Group

Business lender, Reward Finance Group, has expanded its team with two key appointments and a promotion as the Yorkshire-headquartered business looks to strengthen its reputation across the north.

Elizabeth Harrison joins Leeds-based Reward as Marketing and Communications Manager and is an expert in financial marketing from her previous role at The Pensions Trust, where she worked for 14 years. Elizabeth will be responsible for implementing marketing and communication strategies and developing key communications channels to support Reward in enhancing the business’s brand profile.

Damian Slingsby has been promoted to Business Development Director. With over 11 years’ experience in the asset based lending industry and since starting at Reward three years ago, Damian has built up extensive relationships with key businesses, resulting in millions of pounds of secured deals for Reward. In his new position, Damian will continue to develop and expand the current Yorkshire client portfolio on a full time basis.

Russell Holt has been appointed to lead the North West office as Business Development Director. Having worked in both the business advisory and asset based lending sectors for more than 20 years, Russell brings with him a wealth of knowledge and expertise, making him well placed to increase the company’s profile and grow Reward’s client portfolio within the region.

David Jones, joint managing director at Reward Finance Group, said: “Russell, Elizabeth and Damian will play a big part in the development of the Reward brand and their roles will be key in growing the business further within the Yorkshire region and expanding across the north.

“Since its establishment, Reward Finance Group has completed over 200 transactions and has advanced in excess of £70m; the majority of these deals being in the old fashioned bank overdraft space. Reward has seen sustained growth over the past few years and 2015 was our busiest year to date with 80 transactions and £25m of advances.”

Jon Ross, Nippon Gohsei UK

Nippon Gohsei UK, the only European producer of food packaging product Soarnol, has strengthened the engineering team at its Hull factory with the appointment of Jon Ross.

Starting his second spell with the company, Mr Ross has taken on the role of deputy engineering manager at the Saltend Chemicals Park site.

As an incorporated engineer of IMechE, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Mr Ross spent 13 years with global health firm Novartis to 2008 and then a year with Nippon Gohsei before emigrating to Australia.

On his return after 18 months, he worked on a contractual basis for the company.

Mr Ross supervises plant maintenance, including preventative and corrective maintenance, and now heads up a team of three mechanical engineers, plus instrument, electrical and a maintenance engineer.

Simon Proctor, left, Nippon Gohsei’s engineering manager, said: “We’re really pleased to have Jon permanently on board; he is an excellent communicator, a great team player and has a very strong mechanical engineering background.”

Jon added: “It’s great to be on board at Nippon Gohsei permanently and I’m looking forward to helping the business with the challenges of meeting increased production in an already very busy plant.

“We work as a team here and I put a lot of emphasis on building relationships with people, and try to work with the engineers in an organised, methodical way.”

Ian Plunkett, PwC

PwC in Hull has appointed a new office senior partner as Richard Bunter is retiring from the firm. Ian Plunkett will succeed him effective this month.

Ian has been an assurance partner for 11 years, and has over 25 years’ experience working with private, government and listed clients.

He recently returned to the Yorkshire & Humber region from Abu Dhabi, where he led PwC’s assurance team. In addition to the Middle East, Ian spent six years in London working with international clients and he brings a global perspective to the Yorkshire & Humberside market, where he spent the first 13 years of his career.

As leader of PwC’s large private business practice in Yorkshire & Humberside, Ian works with some of the region’s most well-regarded private and family-owned organisations.

Ian started his new role in January to allow for a six month transition period before Richard retires from the firm on 30 June.

Ian Plunkett, said: “I’m excited to be given this opportunity. Our Humberside office has grown through the downturn and we have continued to invest in the market with a number of senior hires and record number of graduates recruited this year.

“It is also an exciting time for Humberside, with Hull being named City of Culture for 2017, the £15m investment in the Fruitmarket and Dry Dock to create a digital centre, as well as the development of the Enterprise Zone, are all putting the region on the map nationally and globally.

Richard Tovey, Eshton

Leeds-based property developer, Eshton, has bolstered its management team with the appointment of a new director.

Richard Tovey joins the team from Gregory Property Group where he was responsible for the retail, leisure and commercial activity and, over a twenty year period, was involved in more than forty schemes.

With extensive knowledge of the local area and regional property market, Richard will add tremendous experience to the business, established in 2001. His key focus will be on growing a strong and active development programme, aimed, in the main, to feed the investment side of the business.

Richard stated: “Eshton is a hungry and ambitious company with good finance and equity channels and an impressive track record of delivery.

“I have worked with them previously on a number of schemes and following their recent successes, particularly with Burnley Bridge Business Park, it now seems the right time to join. We are keen to expand our activities further into Yorkshire hence the relocation of our headquarters last year to Leeds city centre”

During the last 12 months we secured one of the year’s largest industrial deals in the North of England, so his knowledge and experience will prove to be crucial as we look to build on our recent achievements”

Alistair Houston, Flint Hyde

Alistair Houston has joined international executive search firm Flint Hyde to head up a new facilities management practice.

Alistair will join the Leeds office of Flint Hyde, working on senior appointments across the globe within the facilities management sector.

Taking on the role of Head of Facilities Management, Alistair brings with him nine years’ experience in recruitment, working with Mackenzie Stuart and Core Consulting, eight of which were spent specialising in the facilities management industry. He started his career working in advertising for organisations including the Yorkshire Post, Autotrader and Leeds United.

On his appointment, Alistair Houston said: “I’m excited to be joining Flint Hyde, which has an enviable reputation in the field of executive search. It’s always of great appeal to work alongside people who operate at the top of their respective industries.

“Hopefully I can add another very successful specialism to the company – the facilities management sector is continuing to grow, particularly in the UK, Middle East, the Far East and across Europe. I’m looking forward to the challenge!”

John McGhee, Gregory Property Group

Leeds based Gregory Property Group has announced that former Yorkshire Bank senior official, John McGhee is to join its board of directors in a non-executive role.

John, who was until recently General Manager at York City Football Club, will still maintain an advisory role at the club whilst also remaining a trustee of the York City Foundation Charity.

In his new role he will assist on all property funding and financial transactions at Gregory Property Group.

Barry Gregory, Chairman at Gregory Property Group said: “We are delighted to welcome John onto our non-executive board. His particular expertise in property lending, integrity and portfolio protection gained through many years in a senior role at Yorkshire Bank will assist us greatly in managing our property funding requirements.

“This complements the existing resource we have in tax planning and commercial strategy through Trevor Gurney who has been a Non-Executive Director at Gregory Property Group since 2001.”

Gregory Property Group is a property development company responsible for the successful regeneration of a number of derelict, brownfield sites in the North of England. Over 30 years it has developed or gained planning consent on more than 3 million sq ft of commercial development in Yorkshire.

Mark Green, Gateley Plc

The Leeds office of national law firm, Gateley Plc, has recently become the base for the regional Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany and hired a new Consultant.

Mark Green, the Honorary Consul for Germany in the North of England, will be working for the firm on a consulting basis. In addition to 30 years’ experience as a corporate/commercial lawyer, Mark is a Public Notary, bi-lingual and dual qualified as a German Rechtsanwalt.

Adding to Gateley’s presence in Leeds, Mark will be overseeing Germany-originated work coming into the UK and will be able to assist with outbound work from the UK to Germany, building on the firm’s co-ordinated international strategy.

This strategy has seen Gateley focus on international inbound and outbound work for the benefit of Leeds and the region.
