Haden Freeman partners with Teesside Uni to support future engineering talent
Manchester-headquartered Haden Freeman, which has an office at the Wilton Centre in Redcar, is the latest North East employer to partner with Teesside University.
An engineering consultancy firm, Haden Freeman is looking to expand its graduate workforce and has began an initiative support students as they enter the field of work.
The partnership has began with a visit to the university’s School of Science and Engineering, whereby Haden directors led a guest session exploring what it’s like to be a graduate in the industry.
Second year Chemical Engineering degree students also received the first in a series of one-on-one sessions from Technical Director, Stuart Dow and Process Engineering Manager, Ian Gilmore.
Stuart Dow said: “After years of interviewing graduates at Haden Freeman, I know just how competitive the process can be, we’re looking for the best candidates who have what it takes to deliver for our business and the sector, graduates therefore need to be prepared to give the best impression they possible can.
“It’s been fantastic to have a direct impact on these students’ development – they are future of the industry after all.”
Samantha Gooneratne, Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for Chemical Engineering, said: “We feel it’s extremely important for the students to have contact with professionals already working in the industry – this really helps to bring what they’re learning to life. It also helps them to understand what to expect when it comes to moving from university into their careers.”
Joe Bode, a current HFL graduate, added: “I’m really enjoying my time at HFL; the work is extremely interesting and my colleagues have been amazing.
“I’ve gained a much broader understanding of the industry and many transferable skills which I will be able to use for life. I am no longer afraid to take on high level responsibilities and I feel much more confident than I did before I started.”
