Trethowans invests in female talent

Trethowans is supporting female rising stars of the theatre world as part of its drive to promote equality. The law firm has announced its support of Salisbury-based Juno Theatre, which aims to support female writers and theatre makers.

Chris Whiteley, managing partner, said: “We were really keen to support this project. I understand that women are underrepresented in the theatre industry, Juno Theatre is doing a fantastic job in levelling the playing field and we are delighted to support a group that is based so close to our Salisbury office.”

According to figures compiled by Tonic Theatre in 2014, just 37 per cent of artistic directors working across the 179 theatre organisations in Arts Council England’s national portfolio are female. Tonic’s research - carried out alongside the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama - also revealed that only 24 per cent of writers of new plays produced in established theatres were female.

Chris added: “We hope that our support of Juno Theatre will help the group continue its good work in promoting women in theatre.”

Trethowans’ programme sponsorship comes at the perfect time for Juno Theatre, which is hosting its inaugural showcase at Salisbury Arts Centre on Sunday, February 7. Tickets to the ‘Circling The Square’ Showcase, which will feature five original plays, are £12 and available by calling 01722 321744 or visiting www.salisburyartscentre.co.uk
