Parish council champions the digital revolution
Budding tech wizards are helping a local government body to boost its digital presence with the creation of a brand new website.
Hinderwell Parish Council in North Yorkshire is on a mission to expand its online footprint to make it easier for residents to access information on community activities.
The organisation has asked computer science students from Redcar & Cleveland College to come up with eye-catching designs for a website, which is expected to go live later this year, and for other marketing materials including promotional leaflets and posters.
Students presented their ideas and designs to the council as part of a Q&A session to test their communication skills and ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience. They will then make modifications to their designs before coming up with a final version of the website and marketing materials.
Arthur Jackson, chairperson of Hinderwell Parish Council, said: “We’re really grateful for the help of the students. We live in a digital age and we’re well aware of the need to grow our online presence to reach out to a wider audience.
“The website and other marketing materials will help us to provide an even better service to the local community.”
Laura Holmes, Level 3 Computer Science student at Redcar & Cleveland College, said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being involved in the project, which has allowed me to showcase my technical and design skills. It has also given me the chance to practise my presentation, communication and problem-solving skills, which will be useful attributes when it comes to getting a job.”
