High Corn Mill Starts 2016 On A High

One of Skipton’s most historic buildings, High Corn Mill, has entered 2016 with a bang.

As new tenant Slimming World opens in the last available unit, the building is now fully let taking the total number of businesses within the mill up to 13. And with over a hundred people working within the mill it’s at its highest employment level ever.

High Corn Mill is owned by family business, Eagerlux, a property company managed by md, Andrew Mear. The company bought the mill in 1991, and has since made over £2 million investments and improvements. This includes restoring the medieval waterwheel and turning it into an educational tourist attraction with The Water Wheel House.

As part of an environmental initiative, a water turbine was installed over six years ago which, alongside the restoration of the original waterwheel, generates power for the building and surrounding properties.

Said Andrew: “It’s great to see the mill so alive and busy with such a mix of businesses. Some of the tenants have been in the mill for many years and it’s great to see them grow and also exciting to see new businesses come in.

“2015 was a busy year at the mill. Just Teachers and Sexton & Co expanded, Eagerlux bought the established Home Company and moved its showrooms, AKA PR had a complete refurb, and three new businesses moved in.”

Slimming World opened its doors on December 28 making it the first branch in the UK to rent a permanent office. It has 300 members and hopes its new base will encourage more people to join.

Andrew Mear is the md of property development company, Eagerlux Ltd. His father and two brothers are directors of the company. Eagerlux’s portfolio holds a selection of historical buildings across the region, including Skipton’s medieval High Corn Mill, www.highcornmill.co.uk
