Why I fired my boss
Five years ago I was working a regular job. It was partially enjoyable, I mean I didn’t not like it; otherwise, I wouldn’t have been there. I enjoyed the people, the environment was okay, and the pay meant I could enjoy things a little more than without a job.
There came a time when I realised that it wasn’t for me, and I don’t mean that particular job. I mean working for someone, with some people.
I didn’t fire the boss I used to work for; I fired every boss that I would ever work for. Let me explain.
I have a such an active brain, when I was a kid I used to say to my Mum, ’What can I do today?, ‘Mum, I’m bored’. And a whole other bunch of moaning that meant I was pretty mentally unfulfilled.
Fast forward a few years, or two I found myself in my old job becoming tired, not only with University but also my job at the time. I would spend countless hours cracking jokes, surfing the net, and trying to keep my brain from drying up. (Or going insane).
There was not one day where I decided let’s start a business; it was that job that set me on a path to where I am today. Even though I loved the job, like I said it was more about my brain not being fulfilled, not staying active or not active enough. Now in 2016, I work 80 hour weeks, hardly have time to relax and never switch off.
Do I love it? Damn right I do.
Thinking back, you have to ask yourself, did I make the right decision? Did I do what was best? The thing is, you can ask yourself these questions all day long, but that isn’t going to change the past.
One thing I’ve learnt, though, is to follow your heart. Follow your heart even in the face of insecurity, criticism or bedevilment. If you believe in something, then there can be the only way forward, and that’s towards that goal or passion.
Never look back and wonder, how or why. Think forward and do whatever you can to follow your dreams.
