Hundreds flock to Manchester Met to find out how to win a place on exciting trailblazer apprenticeships

Manchester Metropolitan University brought together employers and potential students to find out more about its trailblazing apprenticeship programmes during a Degree and Higher level Apprenticeship open evening.

The apprenticeship scheme has received a lot of support since it was launched, Skills Minister Nick Boles said:

“Higher and degree apprenticeships like the ones being offered at Manchester Metropolitan University will give people the opportunity to study for a top class qualification while gaining hands on experience in the workplace.

“Apprenticeships open doors for young people around the country. That’s why I am committed to 3 million more apprenticeships by 2020.”

The event presented Degree Apprenticeship programmes in Digital & Technology Solutions (IT), Chemical Science and Chartered Management, together with higher and advanced apprenticeships in Legal Services.

Attendees were given the opportunity to discuss current apprentice vacancies with employers, and to discuss the academic side of the apprenticeship with the tutors and course leaders. Lloyds Bank, Thales UK, Astra Zeneca, The Department for Work and Pensions, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Reality Mine, and BMC Health, together with leading legal firms Horwich Farrelly, Pinsent Masons and SAS Daniels LLP were among those who attended.

Prospective students were also given the opportunity to meet current apprentices on the Manchester Met programmes.

Liz Gorb, Manchester Met’s Director of Apprenticeships said: “Young people really can have the ‘best of both worlds’ by combining paid employment with study via our University apprenticeship programmes.”

MMU is a pioneer in the development of Higher and Degree Apprenticeships, part of the trailblazer programme by the government, which part funds the course fees along with the employers.
