Leeds lawyers victorious in £3.3m Silverstone legal battle
Lawyers at the Leeds-based law firm, Clarion, defeated a £3.3m High Court claim issued against the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC), owners of Silverstone Circuits Limited, last year.
The claim against Silverstone Circuits was purchased by Manolete Partners Plc from the administrators of a hospitality company which claimed that Silverstone had unlawfully terminated its contract for the provision of all corporate hospitality and catering at the circuit including for the British Grand Prix.
Clarion Solicitors were appointed by the BRDC to defend the action.
Following a year long legal battle, Manolete Partners has now withdrawn its claims and is liable to pay Silverstone’s legal costs.
Philip Walker, a BRDC board member, said: “The BRDC feels fully vindicated for its robust stance in relation to this matter. In the circumstances, there was no justification for any claim against Silverstone.”
Simon young, Clarion Solicitors’ partner and head of its dispute resolution team, Simon Young, added: “It has been really satisfying to have been able to work closely with the Board of the BRDC to defeat what was a substantial claim.
“This was a genuine team effort that lifts a multi-million pound threat from a business that is the guardian of this world famous British venue. Having overcome this hurdle, and under its new management team, I look forward to seeing Silverstone go from strength to strength.”
