The Wilkins Group ‘Foils’ Competitors With Latest Investment
In an industry that demands a reactive service, Nottingham based The Wilkins Group has invested £300,000 in a new state-of-the-art foil blocking machine to increase turnaround speed and to offer a point of difference to its customers.
Normally considered an outsourced service, The Wilkins Group has placed itself in a unique position by moving the system of foil blocking in-house, by investing in an MK foil-blocking machine.
With many retail sectors demanding a fast turnaround as well as a high commodity product, this technology will reduce transport time, costs and help The Wilkins Group produce packaging on a longer lead-time, more quickly.
Justin Wilkins, sales and marketing director at The Wilkins Group said: “There has been a shift in the market, where once high quality attractive packaging was reserved for the cosmetics and garment industries, now all sectors want unique, innovative packaging and we need to be able to offer that service.
“We have invested in this machine to not only offer a high quality product but to increase efficiency and lower our carbon footprint. The new investment will make us more reactive to any sudden demand from our clients, and puts us in a unique and advantageous position over other packaging firms.”
The MK 1060 ST is built for fast throughput and, depending upon the amount of foil, the MK 1060 ST has the capacity to run at more than 7,000 sph.
This is the latest investment from the packaging and print specialist, which also recently invested over £2m in a new latest technology printing press in a bid to increase capacity.
This investment focuses more on the quality of packaging with the foil blocking technology increasing the visibility and perceived value of the product.
The Wilkins Group, which had a turnover of £33m last year, has one of the largest independent packaging factories in the UK and specialises in producing packaging for food – chilled and frozen, textiles, confectionery, toiletries and household products.
Justin added: “We always look to invest in ways to not only improve our products but also our service.”
