BASF to sponsor new Business of Science event
The world’s leading chemical company, BASF, has been revealed as the headline sponsor of the inaugral Business of Science Conference which takes place in Manchester on 19th May.
Staged as part of a programme of events to celebrate Manchester’s status as European City of Science, the conference will highlight how the development and commercialisation of science is driving growth across the whole of the North.
Richard Carter, managing director of BASF in the UK and Ireland, joins the list of speakers already confirmed for the event: Dame Nancy Rothwell, president and vice-chancellor at the University of Manchester, Sir Howard Bernstein, chief executive of Manchester City Council and Neil Murray, founder and CEO of RedX Pharma.
Geoff Mackey, sustainability communications director at BASF, said “As a business that’s committed to developing science and innovation that meets the current and future needs of society, BASF is delighted to sponsor the inaugral Business of Science Conference.
“BASF’s long-standing connection to the North of England began back in 1880 when the firm established a sales office in Manchester. That relationship continues to this day with our Cheadle Hulme office, which has helped to support economic growth in the region since 1967.
“Our sponsorship of this event underlines our continued commitment to the North of England as a location where science for a sustainable future can thrive.”
Steve Bennett, managing director of Science North Limited, the organiser and host of the event, said “As the world’s leading chemical company, BASF is a shining example of how great science can translate into great business.
“Having the company on board as headline sponsor of the Business of Science Conference is a real coup and we look forward to announcing more details about BASF’s involvement in due course.”
Held at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, the conference will explore the development and commercialisation of great science. With other speakers including senior figures from PZ Cussons, Siemens UK and the National Graphene Institute, delegates will hear first-hand how businesses succeed in science.
