Cheltenham Poetry Festival unveils Lodders as headline sponsor

Cheltenham’s internationally renowned Poetry Festival, one of the biggest in the country, has unveiled Lodders Solicitors as headline sponsor of this year’s event.

Lodders, which has a 20-strong team at its Cheltenham office on Imperial Square, is backing the 2016 Festival for the first time this year, support which it says underlines its long-running patronage of the arts as well as its commitment to Cheltenham’s community.

The 2016 Lodders Cheltenham Poetry Festival runs from the 5th to 15th May and this year boasts a packed programme of award-winning plays, cabaret nights, specially commissioned poetry cinema, storytelling, workshops, spoken word and poetry bands.

Described by The Guardian as ‘A Festival with a healthy dose of anarchy’, the event’s director and driving force Anna Saunders, says she is thrilled to be working with such a forward-thinking firm:

“I am simply delighted that Lodders is headline sponsor of the 2016 Cheltenham Poetry Festival. It has been so refreshing to work alongside a forward-thinking professional firm that also has a tangible positive attitude towards the arts. Lodders’ team in Cheltenham, headed by Paul Mourton, and partner of its family law team Barbara Jordan, work hard to support the arts sector, and especially arts within Cheltenham’s community. The firm’s team has dedicated time and resources to this year’s Festival, in a way I’ve never before experienced from a law firm.”

Lodders’ Barbara Jordan says: “The Cheltenham Poetry Festival truly offers something for everyone, both those who find the thoughtfulness and word play in poetry exciting and challenging, but also for those who just want to see spontaneous young poets at the Poetry Slam which makes for a really entertaining and fun evening.”

Lodders opened its Cheltenham office in 2013, but was founded nearly 230 years ago and also has an office in Stratford upon Avon. The 2016 Cheltenham Poetry Festival is furthering links with the town with the inclusion of a Shakespeare event on Saturday 7th May.

“Author Dr Paul Innes is holding a talk entitled ‘Shakespeare’s Roman Plays’, the title of his book, from 5pm at St Andrew’s Church,” explains Anna.

More information about this event and the full Festival programme is available at: www.cheltenhampoetryfest.co.uk where tickets can be booked on-line.

The Festival’s theme for 2016 is ‘beauty’ and its poets and performers will be offering their own, sometimes very different, take on what beauty means to them.
