North East businesses urged to attend Devolution First event

In light of the region’s councils discussing potential opportunities offered by devolution, FIRST Face to Face Ltd and the Federation of Small Business are hosting an event called ’Devolution First’ 17:30 -20:00 on 12th April 2016 at The Bunker, Campus North.

The event will hear from Cllr Nick Forbes, the Newcastle City Council Leader to hear how the devolution deal will help start-ups, young people and established businesses continue to grow their business.

Charlotte Windebank, MD of FIRST Face to Face, said: “It is vital that young people and startup businesses are made aware of the changes as much as established businesses and the ‘usual’ suspects. We encourage everyone to be at the event to either find out about what’s happening or to offer support to those that don’t!”

Simon Hanson, Development Manager for the Federation of Small Businesses, said: “The North East is the fastest growing region on the UK. Agreeing a devolution deal will help to continue this growth with businesses at the forefront of the deal.

“Any agreed deal must recognise the huge role that start-ups and younger businesses play in the region’s success. Our event with First Face to Face will ensure that these businesses get their voice heard.”

The event will provide networking opportunities and an exhibition of support agencies currently offering start up and growth activities for businesses that attend the evening.

There will be an inspirational talk on the ‘power of doing’ given by Robert Noyes; ethics and environmental representative from Newcastle University. Gordon Merrylees, Head of Entrepreneurship at RBS and NatWest will also be speaking about their ‘Entrepreneurial Spark’ Accelerator Programme, soon to launch in Newcastle.
