Law firm puts employee health to the test
Staff from the Black Country’s leading law firm have put their health to the test as part of a national stroke prevention initiative.
Higgs & Sons hosted a blood pressure testing day to support the company’s ongoing employee Health and Wellbeing policy.
Medically trained staff from the Stoke Association carried out blood pressure checks at the firm’s Brierley Hill headquarters.
Higgs & Sons’ HR manager Helena Flavell said: “We value the good health of our team.
“Our Health and Wellbeing initiatives help to create a healthy working environment where our people feel valued and supported, in order for them to remain loyal to each other, the firm and our clients.”
Louise Lawless, community and events fundraising manager for the Stroke Association, added: “The ‘Know Your Blood Pressure’ campaign helps people to understand the link between high blood pressure and stroke.
“In fact, high blood pressure is a contributing factor to 54 per cent of strokes in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
“As it often has no symptoms and can affect people of all ages, the only way to know your blood pressure is to have it tested. The check is quick, easy and painless and we recommend everyone gets tested to reduce their risk of having a stroke.”
National blood pressure testing day is Saturday 23rd April, with the Stroke Association delivering testing sessions at companies and community locations throughout the UK. To find out more, visit www.stroke.org.uk
Higgs’ Head of Corporate Social Responsibility programme, Tim Jones, said: “By partnering with our chosen charity, the Stroke Association, we are underlining our commitment to a healthy, successful workplace as well as raising vital funds for an important cause.
“Already this year, 18 of our staff have tackled the 5k or 10k Resolution Run at Hagley Hall, and there are many more activities planned for this year, including a quiz night, with the aim of exceeding last year’s fundraising total of £15,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.”
Higgs & Sons is based in the heart of the Black Country at the Waterfront Business Park in Brierley Hill. The growing team boasts more than 100 specialist lawyers available to support clients in a comprehensive range of business and private sectors.
