CQC Success For Scunthorpe Autism Specialists
The Broughton based specialist personal care home for people with autism and learning difficulties celebrates a ‘Good’ rating from the Quality Care Commission (CQC) after an unannounced inspection.
Now under new management, the recently registered manager, Jane Sweeting, has transformed the specialist care provider into a beacon of best practice for the Scunthorpe area with praise for a safe, effective, caring and responsive service.
Jane Sweeting, registered manager at Amber House says: “I am incredibly proud of this rating. The whole team has worked extremely hard over the last 12 months to ensure our service is the best it can be.
“We have made significant improvements in the way the service is managed and are now working very hard to implement further plans to ensure we are a service provider of excellence.”
The Quality Care Commission spoke with four people who used the service, a friend who was visiting, and a relative. They observed how staff interacted with people who used the service and monitored how they supported people throughout the day, including meal times.
Jane continues: “People who use the service shared their thoughts with the CQC inspectors, we are just elated with the comments: “I have a very nice room which staff help me to keep clean and the food is delicious.” “The staff know what they’re doing,” “They listen to us about what we want,” “The food is very good; I like the pasta but would like to have shepherd’s pie.” “I like Amber house and am looking forward to my respite stay here next week.” This is why we are dedicated to providing a good service, it’s about the people that need us and ensuring they lead a fulfilled quality life.”
Amber House is a small provider of residential, personal, day, respite care and supported living for people with learning disabilities and those affected by Autistic Spectrum Disorder 52 weeks a year for adults over the age of 18.
