Ladies’ luncheon raises more than £5,000 for charity

An afternoon of fashion and food has given a Lancashire charity’s coffers a boost of more than £5,000.

Head injury charity, Headway Lancaster and Morecambe Bay, held a ladies’ luncheon and fashion show in Kirkby Lonsdale to raise much needed funds.

The fundraising event was supported by Birchall Blackburn Law, which has offices in locations across the North West and hosted by Kirkby Lonsdale’s independent fashion store Foxy Lady Fashions and Plato’s boutique B&B.

The event was attended by almost 90 people, it was overseen by professional compere Rob Falcon and also included a cartoonist, raffle and auction.

Raffle and auction prizes included tickets to Jeremy Kyle and Loose Women and a coat worn by Carla Connor in Coronation Street.

Janet Staff, chairwoman of Headway Lancaster and Morecambe Bay, said: “Our luncheon and fashion show was nothing short of incredible. I have never seen evidence of such generosity in terms of raffle and auctions prize donations before.

“The grand total for the day is in excess of £5,000. This exceeded our wildest dreams and we cannot thank everyone involved enough. The money raised will enable us to help more people whose lives have been affected by head injury.”

Headway Lancaster and Morecambe Bay provides practical and emotional support as well as social activities to help prevent people with brain injuries from becoming isolated and lonely.

Dianne Yates, partner and head of serious and catastrophic injury for Birchall Blackburn Law, added: “We have seen first-hand the difference Headway Lancaster and Morecambe Bay makes for people living with a head injury and this fundraising event was a great way to raise awareness of the charity, which we are very proud to support.”

During Action for Brain Injury Week, which takes place from 9-15 May, Headway will launch its Concussion Aware campaign. As part of the campaign Headway Lancaster and Morecambe Bay will ask local sports clubs to ‘be concussion aware’.
