Everton smash season ticket sales record

Everton FC are celebrating after selling a record number of season tickets for the 2016/17 season.

The Toffees have already sold close to 31k seats at Goodison for next season with two months of sales still to go.

The figure is nearly 1,500 more than the previous record seen ahead of the 2014/15 campaign, around 3,500 more than this time last year and 7,700 higher than the total sold five seasons ago.

In a statement published on the club’s website, Blues CEO Robert Elstone commented: “We would like to thank our supporters for committing their support to the Club for the 2016/17 season.

“These numbers reflect the dedication of our fans, an appreciation of the Club’s approach to ticket prices and of course, anticipation for the season ahead.

He continued: “Back in March when we announced the new pricing structure, our aim was to give something back to our fans and demonstrate how much we appreciate their support.

“We acknowledged the amazing new TV deal and felt it only right that we shared some of that uplift with our fans.”

Speaking further, Mr Elstone said it is “extremely pleasing” to see fans’ positive response to the changes.

He added: “I am particularly delighted to see that almost one-in-four of our record sales figure are young season ticket holders.”

Last month, Everton revealed plans to build a new stadium on one of two brownfield sites in Liverpool (read what fans had to say about it here).
