York charities celebrate giant chocolate donations
Local housebuilder David Wilson Homes has teamed up with York Cocoa House to donate eight giant chocolate segments to local charities and community groups. The giant versions of the famous Terry’s Chocolate Orange segments have been donated to groups across the city as part of the launch of the second show home at The Chocolate Works, which is being developed on the site of the old factory.
The segments have been donated to five charities and groups, including York Teaching Hospital Charity, Connaught Court, Martin House, St Leonards Hospice and Knavesmire Primary School. The segments will be used by the charities for a variety of fundraising purposes, and will help the groups raise vital funds. Another two segments were used in a raffle at David Wilson Homes’ head office in York to raise money for the company’s charity of the year, the Brain Tumour Foundation.
Paul Hogan, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes Yorkshire East, commented: “We’re delighted that we have been able to support a number of local charities and community groups with the donation of these Chocolate Orange segments. We were looking for a way to give something back to the local community, and teaming up with one of the city’s most loved chocolatiers to create these giant segments seemed like a fun and fitting way to honour the rich heritage of the site on which The Chocolate Works now stands.”
Maria Simon-Norris, fundraiser at York Teaching Hospital – who received a donation – added: “We were so pleased to receive our giant Chocolate Orange segment, which we have decided to raffle at our Roaring Twenties Ball fundraiser on the 2nd July. The Ball is raising vital funds for our Dementia Café on Ward 37, and we think there is a lovely link between this donation and the many memories our patients will have of the old Terry’s factory.”
