NCT Skills Apprentice Returns to Recruit Next Generation

Joe Miller, a graduate from the 2012 apprenticeship intake of NCT Skills joined forces with his former NCK Skills tutor to find his own apprentice.

In the four years since Joe left NCT Skills, having completed his bricklaying apprenticeship, he has established his own successful business, Brick-eze, which focuses on building extensions and new build homes across the North East

With demand for his work high Joe approached NCT Skills through his former tutor Mac Correy to help him find an apprentice work alongside him.

Joe Miller said: “I wouldn’t be where I am now without NCT Skills. Doing my apprenticeship has set me up for life and the time I spent on site with my employer was invaluable in that it took my work to another level and gave me proper site experience.

“When I realised I needed a bit of extra help I thought straight away that it would be great to give someone else the same opportunity that I had. I spoke to Mac and he thought it was a great idea too.

“It’s great to be taking on Shaun Skelton and to have the opportunity to contribute towards bringing on the next generation of tradesmen. Alongside NCT Skills, I am sure Shaun will receive the very best chance of succeeding.”

NCT Skills Partnerships Manager, Allison Allen, added: “It’s fantastic to see how far Joe has come in such a short time. We’re so pleased that he’s chosen to support another young person as they start their career in the construction industry. Joe is someone that an apprentice can really relate to and look up to – he’s been through the process, put in the hard work and is experiencing success. Let’s hope that in a few years Shaun will be back to take on his own apprentice!”
