This week’s Yorkshire appointments

Ison Harrison, the Leeds-based law firm, has announced a number of new appointments to strengthen its personal injury and clinical negligence teams at its central Leeds branch.

James Thompson has taken up the role of interim head of clinical negligence, covering Rebecca Woods’ maternity leave. James used to work at Ison Harrison 10 years ago as a trainee solicitor then moved to Irwin Mitchell. Having returned to Ison Harrison, he is looking forward to working with the team again.

Steven Addy has joined as a legal executive, moving on from the Barnsley-based law firm Raleys, which recently went into administration.

Also joining the personal injury team is Melita Roberts, a paralegal. Melita will be working closely with the well-established Leeds city centre team alongside the newly appointed James Thompson.

Another new addition is Barnaby Rosenthall, a solicitor with expertise in all aspects of clinical negligence.

Anne Haggas, Chris Hartnell, Louise Hirst, Daniel Sherwood, Stephen Courcier, Carter Jonas

Carter Jonas, the property consultancy, has promoted five members of staff across its Yorkshire office network in Harrogate, York and Leeds.

Louise Hirst has been promoted from associate partner to partner. Based at the York office, Louise joined Carter Jonas in 2003 and advises on all aspects of residential agency in both the city and surrounding villages.

Anne Haggas, New Homes manager for the North, has been promoted to associate. Anne joined Carter Jonas in 2014 to launch a dedicated New Homes team in the region, complementing the work of the New Homes teams across the UK.

Offering developers a bespoke marketing service from a schemes conception, planning and design to final completion, Anne has worked on a number of high profile new developments in the area including, The Old Police Station in Harrogate, and The Residence in York.

The Leeds office has seen three promotions. Stephen Courcier, senior planner, has been promoted to associate. Stephen joined the team in 2015 providing strategic planning and development policy advice on major commercial and residential developments throughout Northern England.

Chris Hartnell, senior surveyor, has been promoted to associate. Chris provides commercial agency services to both landlord and occupier clients throughout Yorkshire.

Daniel Sherwood has been promoted from commercial surveyor to associate. Daniel joined Carter Jonas in 2013, working on development appraisals for both residential and commercial schemes, development land agency and commercial property valuation.

The five promotions are part of Carter Jonas’s record 45 promotions across its 36 strong UK office network.

Tim Waring, Dacre, Son & Hartley

Harrogate estate agent Tim Waring has joined Dacre, Son & Hartley as a director and will specialise in selling homes across the company’s North Yorkshire office network.

He also joins the board at Dacres, which employs a 160 strong team across its 21 offices.

Tim brings a wealth of experience to the position after previously spending 11 years as Knight Frank’s office head in Harrogate. Prior to that he worked at Carter Jonas as the firm’s national head of residential.

Tim originally launched his property career at Dacres where he spent 10 years and also qualified. He is now a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS).

In his new role, he will predominantly specialise in marketing homes priced above £500k in and around Harrogate, and will work with the company’s North Yorkshire branch network which includes Wetherby, Ripon, Knaresborough, Thirsk and Pateley Bridge.

Patrick Mellon, Frenchgate Shopping Centre

The Frenchgate Limited Partnership has announced that Patrick Mellon has been appointed as general manager of Frenchgate Shopping Centre.

Located onsite in Doncaster, Mellon now heads up a team of over 80 people in his new role at the destination.

Patrick Mellon began his career in property as an asset manager for a NI construction company and managed two NI shopping centres.

In 2014, Mellon relocated to England and managed a Manchester shopping centre. He was appointed as the assistant centre manager at Frenchgate in July 2015 before being promoted to his current role as general manager in May.

Commenting on the appointment on behalf of The Frenchgate Limited Partnership, Paul Devlin said: “Patrick Mellon is a fantastic asset for Frenchgate who brings with him a wealth of knowledge from his previous roles and can further build on his time at the destination following his well-deserved promotion to General Manager.”

Chelsea Martin, Langleys Solicitors

Langleys Solicitors has strengthened its private client team with the appointment of Chelsea Martin.

Chelsea joins the York-based law firm as an assistant solicitor. She previously worked at Clarion.

Chelsea advises on all aspects of private client work including inheritance tax planning, the preparation of wills, trust documents and lasting powers of attorney.

She also has experience of advising on care fee funding and mental capacity issues, including making applications to the Court of Protection.

Chelsea is a student member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

David Wood, head of the private client unit at Langleys, said: “Chelsea’s appointment strengthens our highly regarded private client team.

David Boulton, ELG Planning

Town planning and development services firm ELG Planning (formerly England & Lyle) has appointed David Boulton as a director.

With almost 25 years experience in both the public and private sectors, dealing with a wide variety of development projects, including strategic land promotion and property advice, David brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role to help build on the established expertise of the ELG Planning team.

David joins ELG Planning having held the position of partner and head of the northern planning team for a national firm of property consultants. Previously based in Harrogate, David will continue to focus upon private and institutional clients across Yorkshire to develop further the firm’s client base.

Mike Smith, Cooper & Hall

A senior quantity surveyor with more than 20 years experience in the construction industry has joined a Harrogate-based firm.

Mike Smith, a former pre-construction contract manager at York-based Shepherd Construction, is the latest recruit to Pannal Business Park’s Cooper & Hall.

After leaving the construction firm, Mike spent a number of years working as a freelance quantity surveyor working for a number of companies, including his new employer.

Mike’s appointment takes the Cooper & Hall workforce up to 14. It has just announced the opening of a Glasgow office which will eventually have up to four staff based there.

Cooper & Hall director Phil Cooper said: “Mike brings a wealth of experience with him and will be a real asset to the team.

“He is well known in the construction industry and his appointment as a senior quantity surveyor will help boost our credentials in the sector. He will also act as mentor to younger members of the team who can call on him for sound and practical advice when they need it.”

Grace Morton and Jahnae Gumbs, MacComms

A West Yorkshire-based public relations firm has appointed its first full time employee and a student summer placement.

MacComms, based in Huddersfield and Leeds, has employed Grace Morton who joins as account executive to manage the company’s growing client base.

Grace joins student intern, Jahnae Gumbs who is also undertaking a full-time summer placement at MacComms, following her part-time work experience in the firm since January.

MacComms, established by Ellie MacDonald in April last year, has made the appointments to support the growth of the business and its position as the wedding PR specialists.

Grace graduates this summer in English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Huddersfield.

With a strong background in writing, Grace has plans to develop within the company to support the business’s growth. She will assist the company and MacComms’ clients in the role, alongside promoting and supporting the firm’s specialism in the wedding PR sector, following the promotion of wedding suppliers, Elenor Rose Bridal, The Rock Hotel and Zest Mixology.

MacComms founder, Ellie MacDonald said: “Both Grace and Jahnae share MacComms’ ambition for growth and I am excited to have them supporting the company’s progress further.”

Shubhu Patil, Mills & Reeve

The Leeds office of law firm Mills & Reeve has made two appointments to its corporate team.

Shubhu Patil is joining as a principal associate from Walker Morris where she was an associate in the corporate team.

Shubhu, who has previously worked at Addleshaw Goddard in Leeds and at Slaughter and May, advises across the full corporate spectrum with particular expertise in capital markets, handling IPOs and secondary offerings on AIM for corporate clients, brokers and NOMADs.

Also joining from Walker Morris is solicitor Anna Gausden who will be an associate in the Mills & Reeve corporate team.

The Leeds office launched its corporate team at the end of last year following the appointment of partner Paul Johnson. Paul joined from Irwin Mitchell where he was partner and head of the firm’s corporate team in the Leeds office.

Paul said: “Mills & Reeve has ambitious expansion plans for its corporate and commercial offering in Yorkshire.

“Over the last few months we have completed a host of multi-million pound deals and currently have a very healthy deal flow with a number of completions due over the coming weeks. I’m delighted to welcome Shubhu and Anna who will be great additions to the team.”
