Choir raise the roof after receiving cash boost

A cathedral choir in Ripon has plenty to sing about after receiving a donation supporting its annual musical concert in London.

Ripon Cathedral Music Trust has received £2,000 from Persimmon Homes Yorkshire to help fund its recital, which took place at Temple Church, London in May.

The Music Trust is aiming to raise more than £5 million over the next five years, to help support new initiatives and promote and maintain music at Ripon Cathedral for future generations. Since the Trust’s launch, in 2015, so far more than £600,000 has been raised, and the London musical event generated a further £9,785 towards its fundraising goal.

Sir Andrew Lawson-Tancred, Ripon Cathedral Music Trust trustee, said: “This is the second year we had hosted such an event in London. It is a wonderful opportunity to raise our profile and demonstrate the capabilities Ripon choir members, while highlighting the importance of choral musical heritage in cathedrals.

“We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes for supporting the concert.”

Simon Usher, managing director at Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “It’s heart-warming listening to a choir and, as we are in the early stage of building a new development in Ripon, we were delighted to support their annual concert.

“We hope that Ripon Cathedral choir continues to flourish for many years to come.”

Persimmon Homes Yorkshire has developments across North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire and is launching new developments in Easingwold, Pickering and Scarborough this year.
