Northern Law Awards success for Collingwood Legal

Newcastle law firm Collingwood Legal has scooped this year’s Employment Team of the Year at the 2016 Northern Law Awards.

Collingwood Legal took the hotly-contested title at the Awards Dinner at the Crowne Plaza Newcastle on Thursday (June 23). It was one of four employment law specialists shortlisted and beat off strong competition to take the prestigious title.

Colllingwood Legal’s founder and principal solicitor, Paul McGowan, said: “We have only been established since 2010 so to beat other long-standing regional specialists to the title is evidence of the quality work we do.

“We’re proud of our team that made this happen as we’ve grown from a start-up to a regional expert in just a few years.”

Mr McGowan, a nationally-recognised TUPE and whistleblowing expert, added: “We’re delighted to be taking this award home and I want to extend my thanks to all our staff who made this happen. We have a fantastic team that is helping the company to grow in stature every month.”

Collingwood Legal has expanded rapidly in both reputation and status as an employment specialist in the North East and nationally.

The firm is now the North East’s go-to employment specialist, with eight employment solicitors working with clients in the public and private sectors. Six of the team have been externally recognised for their expertise in the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners guides in recent years.

In the 12 months to the end of February 2016, Collingwood Legal has advised more than 200 clients on their employment law needs, including a large scale restructuring and redundancy programme implemented by Blackpool and the Flyde College, plus numerous tribunals and whistleblowing cases.

The company is also known for its use of innovation and new technology, including the Employer123.com online and telephone helpline and insurance service for clients.

The Northern Law Awards recognition comes just days before Collingwood Legal represented the region as the only law firm with North East headquarters to make it through to the finals of The Lawyer Magazine Awards in London.

Collingwood was shortlisted in the Boutique Firm of the Year category at the awards, which are now in their 22nd year and were held at the O2 InterContinental Hotel in London on June 29 (Wednesday).
