Beverley set for major job boost at Lidl-led multi-million pound development

An abundance of new jobs are set to be created in Beverley after plans were released for a Lidl supermarket, family pub, coffee shop and new business space.

The multi-million pound proposals are being brought forward by Lidl and Cookridge Estates LLP on land to the west of Hull Road, Beverley.

The plans also include new vehicle access from the Hull Road/Minster Way roundabout to serve both the store and the wider housing allocation to the south of Beverley.

The Lidl development will create at least 40 full and part time jobs once the store is operational, and there will be further jobs created in the family pub/restaurant, coffee shop and business units.

The developers have appointed national planning design and economics consultancy Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners (NLP) to take forward the proposals.

Jonathan Wallace, senior director for NLP, said: “The new store will feature a high quality, contemporary design based upon Lidl’s latest format and will reduce the distance travelled by residents to existing Lidl stores in Willerby, Hull, Newlands and Driffield.”

Mr Wallace added: “Over 40 ha of land to the south of Beverley is allocated for a mix of uses in the emerging Local Plan for East Riding, including around 800 residential dwellings and 4 ha of employment uses.

“The Lidl and Cookridge proposals will complement this substantial number of new homes, create employment-generating development, and provide new retail and food and drink facilities to meet the needs of occupiers of the new developments and the wider Beverley area.

“The new Lidl store itself would enhance local consumer choice for residents of Beverley in a highly accessible location, and provide competition to the existing Aldi store on Swinemoor Lane.”

A public consultation regarding the plans will take place on Friday 15th July 2016 between 2pm and 6pm at Saint Nicholas Community Centre, Holme Church Lane, Beverley.

The planning application is expected to be submitted in September 2016.
