Do you inspire children to learn about science?

A specialist chemical consultancy company in Newcastle has launched a new £10,000 Fund at the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland to inspire children about science. To take advantage of this exciting new initiative apply now at www.communityfoundation.org.uk/apply.

The Community Foundation is encouraging applications from schools, community groups and charities who support young people to engage in science, environment and technology. The Fund will look to support capital items, and workshops, guest lecturers, and group field trips and visits. Projects must be able to demonstrate an ability to inspire children about science.

The Enviresearch Fund has been established following the work and success of Enviresearch Limited, a consulting company which supports chemical companies to produce safe and effective products in Europe. The shareholders of the company have decided to return some of these benefits to Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, the area in which the company operates.

James Garratt, Director and founder of Enviresearch says:

“Enviresearch is delighted to establish a Fund at the Community Foundation which seeks to inspire children to learn about science. As a company we have reached a point where we’re comfortable and are now able to give back to the community in which we operate. This is our ‘what next’ moment where we can take a step back and decide how we can make a difference with our corporate conscience. “

Charles Hazlerigg, Environmental Risk Assessor at Enviresearch adds:

“We’re passionate about science, which plays a crucial role in everybody’s life. Without science we wouldn’t have medicine or be able to find new ways of producing energy to help protect the planet. With our Fund we aim to inspire the next generation of young people to go out and achieve brilliant things!”

To launch the Fund, Enviresearch and the Community Foundation visited St Paul’s Church of England School in the West End of Newcastle. Pupils at the school took part in a mock science trial, and are eager for their teachers to apply to the Fund. Derry Nugent, Director of Philanthropy Services at the Community Foundation explains:

“We’re delighted to work with Enviresearch on this exciting new opportunity for young people in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland. We are encouraging applications in the region of £250 to £4,000, from projects which can inspire children about science.

“Inspiration can come in many forms and it is difficult to say which pebble causes the ripple effect that leads someone on their journey. However what this Fund can do is provide us with more pebbles, and ensure that with a buzz of scientific activity we can inspire a future generation of budding scientists in our region.”
