IT recycling specialist strengthens management team

Bradford-based IT recycling specialist Ucan Recycling has strengthened its management team with the appointment of Anne-Marie Parkinson.

Anne-Marie will take on the new role of Office and Compliance Manager, to support the Community Interest Company (CIC) with its continued growth.

Established in 2010, Ucan provides a free IT collection service for businesses, schools, universities and local authorities throughout Yorkshire and beyond. All ‘redundant’ equipment is then either processed for reuse or recycling ensuring 100% diversion from landfill.

But the potentially hazardous nature of this operation and the degree of legislation governing the responsible handling and disposal of Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE), has meant that, as Ucan has grown, so too has the level of compliance-related administration within the business.

Director and founder Rob Seal explains: “We are enjoying a strong trading period despite difficult economic conditions, which has seen us grow to a £1.2m turnover business. We’re therefore delighted to have been able to create a new role which concentrates solely on the management of compliance and other office administration.

“Anne-Marie’s role will ensure we remain abreast with constantly changing legislation and that we have water-tight processes and procedures that ensure continued 100% compliance however large we grow. She is an added ‘safety net’ for both Ucan and clients alike.”

Responsible for the accurate recordings of all waste in and out of the business, Anne-Marie will oversee all auditing paperwork, licence renewals, Environment Agency liaison and the continued management of Ucan’s AATF (Approved Authorised Treatment Facility) status.

Anne-Marie, who lives locally to the Ucan site, comments: “This is a very inspiring company with big plans for the future. I look forward to helping both the office and our warehouse work smarter and more efficiently as we further those growth plans.”

Before joining Ucan, Anne-Marie was responsible for compliance within a solar energy firm. She also spent 11 years working as a logistics and compliance manager within the travel industry.

Her appointment comes hot on the heels of Ucan winning the Job Creator of the Year accolade at the Bradford Means Business Awards. Since Ucan was established in 2010, their strong social stance means they continued to reach out to train and develop the unemployed so that they became more job ready. They have hosted over 75 placements and employed 6 apprentices.
