Manchester startup Wakelet teams up with EuroScience Open Forum
Manchester startup Wakelet has teamed up with the international science conference EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF) as it takes place in the city this week (July 24-27).
ESOF is using the Wakelet tool to organise the online content around its conference programme, science topics and speakers, which includes TV’s Prof. Brian Cox.
Wakelet, which has raised £1.25m in investment to date, allows people to create shareable collections known as ‘wakes’ using articles, images, videos, tweets and other forms of content.
Wakelet COO David Curtis said: “People who are interested in ESOF and science festivals would normally use news websites and social media channels like Facebook and Twitter to view individual pieces of information about such events.
“Having to stay up to date with all these channels can get overwhelming, and key parts of the event could get buried and lost in timelines and newsfeeds. On Wakelet, they get to view everything in one place - it brings the best content together in a clear and beautiful way.”
He continued: “ESOF and Science in the City festival are using Wakelet to curate the web’s best content on some of the most relevant science topics such as future technologies, graphene and artificial intelligence.
“Through Wakelet, they’ve created a virtual space for people to read up on the topics under discussion, the speakers and the events themselves.”
ESOF’s programme director, Vicky Rosin, said Wakelet has allowed the conference’s organisers to signpost visitors to relevant material “in a really effective way”.
She added: “We are also looking forward to the daily reportage-style ‘wake’ which will collect the highlights of each day’s activities.”
Jamil Khalil, the founder of Wakelet, commented: “We’re really excited that ESOF is using Wakelet. They’ve got a wealth of information to share with their audience and we’re happy that our platform can help them do that in a more meaningful, visual and effective way.”
