Liverpool FC Main Stand update: Anfield illuminated with first floodlights test
Work to get Anfield stadium ready for Liverpool FC’s 2016/17 campaign is continuing with the first floodlights test taking place this week.
The stadium’s new matchday floodlights, which consist of 198 2kw lamps attached to each of the four stands, have been powered up for the first time.
The recently installed technology is designed to reduce glare and provide improved lighting, allowing matches to kick off later in the evening.
In a post on the LFC website, the club said the enhanced on-pitch visibility will improve the experience for fans at home too, as it boosts the quality of the slow-motion video capture tech used in matchday analysis.
Further, the new floodlights will also enable Anfield to remain lit even if its electrical supply is disrupted.
According to the club, the floodlights are just one part of a raft of new illuminations installed at Anfield this summer. In total, 6,000 light fittings fed by over 300 miles of cabling have been installed inside the redeveloped Main Stand.
Earlier this week, Liverpool revealed plans to honour the victims of the Hillsborough disaster and former manager Bob Paisley in the creation of new public realm outside the Main Stand.
