On Medical’s Expansion Creates North East Jobs

Local medical agency On Medical has created ten new jobs in the region as part of its ambitious growth plans. The Newcastle-based agency is set for expansion after it was recently awarded tier one status by Medco, the government-implemented medico-legal portal system.

On Medical is the first medical agency to transition from tier two to tier one. This landmark moves sees the company become one of the top nine medical agencies within the UK.

Ian Scanlan, Head of Business Development at On Medical said: “We are delighted that MedCo has awarded us tier one status. We started out as a small, internal medical agency. Following changes within the industry, we are now a client-facing agency with a huge capacity for growth and investment in our region.

“Within a year of the introduction of MedCo, we have seen our instructions increase by almost 1000 per cent.

“At On Medical, we do things differently, and our new tier one status has gone against the expectations of many in the industry. We’re here to stay, and with the help of our growing team, we look forward to going from strength to strength, while maintaining our reputation for outstanding client care and efficient service.”

The company was founded in 2006 and initially only served Winn Solicitors’ clients. Since the introduction of MedCo in April 2015, the company has experienced rapid growth in the number of medico-legal reporting and rehabilitation instructions. As a result, staff numbers have risen from 33 to 53 over the past year.

In order to allow for further expansion, the firm will take on an additional ten employees in August, and has plans for on-going recruitment as it continues to expand in its new tier one status. The agency handles ‘medico-legal’ reporting for personal injury solicitors and insurance companies, and also offers rehabilitation services.

Recent government reforms, introduced in 2015, mean that claimant lawyers can no longer source reports from agencies with which they share financial links. This led to the launch of MedCo – a system which randomly allocates medical experts to claims relating to soft tissue injuries.

A move from tier two to tier one within the MedCo structure means that On Medical will receive significantly more exposure on the MedCo portal, giving the agency more opportunity to be selected by clients to provide medico-legal reports.

MedCo’s ground-breaking decision to allow On Medical tier one status was based on several factors, including substantial growth, and capacity to expand further and take on significant numbers of additional instructions.
