Marks and Spencer announce 525 head office job cuts
Marks and Spencer is set to cut 525 jobs at its head office in London.
The jobs cuts are part of a £15m management shakeup strategy which will deliver significant cost savings.
Out of the 525 jobs lost, around 260 are believed to be permanent employees whilst the rest are set to be contractor positions.
Marks and Spencer also plans to relocate a further 400 roles in its IT and Logistics departments outside of London.
Steve Rowe, Marks and Spencer CEO, said: “M&S has to become a simpler and more effective organisation if we are to deliver our plans to recover and grow our business.
“It is never easy to propose changes that impact on our people, but I believe that the proposals outlined today are absolutely necessary and will help us build a different type of M&S – one that can take bolder, pacier decisions, be more profitable and ultimately better serve our customers.”
“We remain committed to investing in store staffing and improving our customer experience and therefore our store colleagues are not affected by this proposal.”
Marks & Spencer is now consulting with its employees with regards to the proposed job cuts at its head office.
