WHN helps kick-start mountain trial duathlon
Lancashire-based law firm Woodcocks Haworth and Nuttall Solicitors has thrown its weight behind local sports club Holcombe Harriers by donating equipment for its upcoming Mountain Trial Duathlon.
WHN, which has offices in locations including Bury, Accrington, Blackburn and Haslingden, has pledged its support by offering up £300 to kit out the gruelling event which will get legs churning on Sunday, September 18.
Starting from the Hare and Hounds pub in Holcombe Brook, the duathlon includes two steep 8.3km fell runs over Holcombe Moor and Peel Tower, as well as a challenging 27km cycle around the original ‘Mountain Trial Holcombe Circuit’ – a scenic course taking in the summit of the Grane Road and Lumb Carr Road hill climb.
The money WHN has donated will help purchase all signage and way markers for the event. Berin Jones, who is a member of the Holcombe Harriers and a partner at WHN, will be martialling the duathlon alongside Stephen Parr, who heads up WHN’s private client department.
It is the second year that the firm has supported the Holcombe Harriers, which formed in 2011. Its members compete in fell, trail and road running, cycling, mountain biking, duathlons and triathlons. Anyone wanting to challenge themselves can enter the duathlon, with the option to take part individually or as part of a relay team.
Berin said: “WHN is a firm committed to backing charities and clubs in the local communities where we are based, so we were more than happy to extend a hand and offer our support to the Holcombe Harriers.”
John Raho, who has organised the Holcombe Harriers Mountain Trial Duathlon, added: “The duathlon is a really challenging event which navigates participants over some really tough terrain, so it will test even the fittest of sportspeople. There’s been a lot of interest so far so we’re expecting it to be even bigger and better than last year.”
