Grant Thornton's 13 new starters.

Grant Thornton expands Leeds and Sheffield offices with ‘stars of the future’

Grant Thornton has expanded its Yorkshire operation with the appointment of 13 school leavers and graduate trainees across in Leeds and Sheffield.

The appointments are part of Grant Thornton’s strategy in becoming the ‘go to firm for growth’ by 2020.

The firm has hired people for its audit, tax and advisory teams in its Leeds and Sheffield offices.

As well as being chosen after attending regional school and university careers fairs, candidates were also invited to attend workshops which gave them an insight into the ‘vibrant economy’, which is an initiative that aims to unlock the shared potential of the nation by working together with government, businesses and communities.

The workshop provided applicants with further insight into the business, resulting in a record number of applications.

Andy Wood, regional practice leader in Yorkshire and North East, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome the new starters this year, and look forward to helping them develop into stars of the future.

“It’s all about recruiting the right people and our recruits include talented school leavers and graduates who haven’t come from a mathematical or accounting background. We believe that these skills can be taught and for us, the candidates’ personal attributes are much more important.

“For many graduates today there is a greater emphasis on the working culture of an employer, particularly when it is their first job. Grant Thornton is committed to ensuring its people enjoy the work they do and are encouraged to be themselves.

“It’s so important to keep a flow of new talent coming into the business every year. Nationally, we hire 200 to 250 trainees a year, which accounts for 5% of the workforce.

“As the stars of tomorrow they will drive the future of the business and will take Grant Thornton Yorkshire forward as we navigate the ever changing professional services landscape.”
