This week’s Yorkshire appointments

Yorkshire law firm, Lupton Fawcett Denison Till, has added ten new people to its team in Sheffield.

The new appointments cover a variety of legal disciplines including corporate, employment, dispute resolution, family, and bothcommercial & residential property.

Senior members of the new team include family law specialist Gary Crothers, Sarah Sargent who has 12 years experience in residential and commercial property, company and commercial law specialist Neil Large, and the latest recruit, dispute resolution solicitor, Kirsty Coggan.

Chris Brooksbank and Jake Pygall, Bilfinger GVA

Commercial real estate adviser Bilfinger GVA has made two new additions to its Yorkshire agency team.

Jake Pygall has joined Bilfinger GVA’s Leeds-based Industrial and Distribution team.

Mr Pygall joins as a surveyor from Ryden LLP and will work closely with industrial director Rob Oliver to strengthen all aspects of the industrial markets Bilfinger GVA operates in.

Chris Brooksbank has also joined, building Bilfinger GVA’s offer, focusing on the office sector.

Mr Brooksbank is the latest addition from Bilfinger GVA Yorkshire’s graduate development programme.

Mr Brooksbank joins the team after graduating from Northumbria University with a degree in Real Estate. He worked part-time at Bilfinger GVA in Leeds during his degree which led to his recent hiring.

James Henson, Langleys Solicitors

Langleys Solicitors has strengthened its dispute resolution offering with the appointment of partner James Henson.

James joins Langleys from Nabarro in Sheffield and is based in the firm’s York office.

He advises on all types of commercial contractual disputes, shareholder and partnership disputes, claims against directors, civil fraud and professional negligence claims against accountants, lawyers and other professionals.

James also acts for utilities companies and other network operators in civil claims, particularly involving damage to apparatus. James is frequently instructed by the European Commission, for whom he has acted for many years.

Tim Cross, head of commercial law at Langleys, said: “James is an excellent addition to our team. He is an expert in many different areas of dispute resolution and his knowledge will further enhance the advice that we offer to our clients.

Stephen McVey, Gordons

Yorkshire law firm Gordons has promoted commercial litigation solicitor Stephen McVey to partner.

A specialist in high value commercial disputes, Stephen has expertise in media and intellectual property litigation.

He regularly deals with cases in the High Court and Court of Appeal and also has experience of managing disputes in other jurisdictions, such as the United States.

Stephen’s clients include global electric heating and domestic appliance manufacturer Glen Dimplex Group; Bradford-headquartered motor retailer JCT600; the world’s largest chemical producer, BASF; and Nisa, the UK’s leading member-owned independent retailer organisation.

Stephen is a Newcastle University law graduate. He joined Gordons immediately after passing the legal practice course at The College of Law, York, in 2001.

Grace Morton, MacComms

Yorkshire PR firm MacComms has announced its first permanent staff member following an internship period.

MacComms, established by Ellie MacDonald in April last year, has made the appointment to support the growth of the business and its position as the wedding PR specialists.

Grace Morton joined the MacComms team following her graduation from The University of Huddersfield where she studied English Literature and Creative Writing.

Grace began her internship at MacComms as account executive for 12 weeks from June to August. Following her internship, she was offered a permanent position at MacComms to become the first permanent staff member to join the MacComms team.

Ellie said: “After a successful internship it was a pleasure to offer Grace a permanent position at MacComms. She has taken on a new role and learnt fast, continually showing enthusiasm and enjoyment for the role.”

Grace commented: “It is a fantastic achievement to be offered a permanent position following my 12-week internship at MacComms.

“Throughout my internship I have developed my writing skills and been supported by Ellie, I look forward to growing within the business.”

Craig Ingram, Barclays

Barclays has appointed Craig Ingram as the new area business manager for Humber, York and the North Yorkshire coastal area with responsibility for the SME sector in the region.

Ingram, who started his career at Paragon Square, Hull branch in 2004, has a wealth of experience in Corporate and SME markets across the Humber region.

Previous roles include responsibility for business customers across Hull and supporting Corporate clients across the Humber region as a relationship support manager

Craig said: “I am really looking forward to consistently putting customers and clients’ interests at the heart of everything that we do striving to improve the service that we provide and making responsible decisions in how we manage our business.”

Tony Conroy, Ellis

North Yorkshire cable cleat manufacturer, Ellis, has appointed Tony Conroy as global sales director.

Tony, who joined the Rillington-based company in 2001, was appointed export sales director in 2012, and has now been promoted to the newly created role of global sales director.

Richard Shaw, Ellis’ manging director, said: “Tony has been an enormous asset to Ellis since the moment he first walked through the door and it’s been his work, as much as anyone else’s that has seen Ellis rise from a company with export ambitions to one with a truly global reach and a reputation to match.

“Therefore, when we decided to restructure the sales team earlier in the year we had absolutely no hesitation in offering him the global sales director role.

“I have no doubt he’ll be every bit as successful in it as he has been when focussed solely on export sales.”

Ellis’ export operation now represents over 50% of the company’s £7m annual turnover and sees Tony and his team manage a network of distributors in more than 30 different countries.

Chris Johnson and Jack Dooley, Brewster Bye Architects

An architecture practice in Leeds has appointed two new team members.

Chris Johnson joins Headingley-based Brewster Bye Architects as an architectural assistant, and Jack Dooley as a junior technologist.

Chris and Jack have experience across a number of sectors including the residential property market, the healthcare sector, the commercial sector and the public sector.

Chris Austin, managing director, commented: “These two new appointments mean that our team has continued to grow as our business expands and secure new contracts.

“Since the firm was founded 23 years ago, we have built up an impressive client list across both the private and public sectors, and have further growth plans in the pipeline this year, which means we are actively looking to employ more experienced architects and architectural assistants.”

Anouj Patel and Danielle Pawson, Clarion

Leeds law firm Clarion has announced the appointment of Anouj Patel and Danielle Pawson.

Anouj and Danielle are the latest recruits to embark on a two year training contract with Clarion during which time they will gain experience in at least four departments.

Anouj initially joins the corporate team. A graduate of the University of Sheffield, Anouj studied LLB Law with European and International Law and undertook his LPC studies at University of Law, Leeds, which he completed in June this year.

His studies gave him the opportunity to study and work in the USA for 12 months based at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School.

Danielle’s first placement is with the family team. She gained her LLB Law at University of Birmingham and went on to graduate earlier this year gaining an LPC from the University of Law, Leeds. She has previous legal experience having worked as a paralegal and as a legal assistant.

Danielle also sits on the Football Association’s West Yorkshire Youth Advisory Group.

Stewart Oades

Stewart Oades has been appointed to the Board of Hessle-based John Good and Sons Limited as a non-executive director.

During his career, Stewart has held senior management positions in companies such as Argyll Stores plc, Christian Salveson plc and Exel plc.

As well as serving as president of the Freight Transport Association, he also has advisory experience with Marks and Spencer and previous non-executive director experience with Clipper Group and Thai Union Europe (formerly John West).

Stewart is currently a senior independent non-executive director for Wincanton plc and Reflex Van Hire and is also Chairman of Dalepak Ltd.

Stewart will be tasked with making a significant contribution to helping the company become a national organisation with leading positions in all of the markets in which it operates.
