North Yorkshire gas detection business secures military contact with Saab

Analox Military Systems (AMS), the North Yorkshire-based gas detection business, has been awarded a contract to work with Saab on the mid-life upgrade to two Gotland-class submarines.

Saab signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) in 2015 to conduct the upgrade to the boats.

AMS is implementing an atmosphere monitoring system, ensuring levels of CO, which is produced from machinery spaces and R134a, which can be emitted from chilled water and refrigerant compartments, remain at a safe level.

These submarines will receive improvements necessary to meet future operational requirements, including an overhaul and upgrade of the combat system.

The project is already underway, and the two upgraded Gotland-class submarines will be delivered to FMV in late 2018 and late 2019.

Vicky Brown, sales and marketing director for AMS, said: “We’re very proud to have been awarded this contract to assist with the upgrade of two of the Swedish Navy’s Gotland- class boats.

“Our solid partnership with Saab allows us to work efficiently to provide the technology needed for the upgrade project.”
