No Marching Orders From This Training Company

A training company that started to offer apprenticeships just a year ago has reason to celebrate. The first of its candidates has successfully achieved their apprenticeship…and the ex-army HGV driver is employed by the company!

JB Skills Training in Sunderland has just celebrated its second anniversary. This time last year they started to put candidates through the funded apprenticeship route including their own employee, 28 year Kim Fenwick.

And Kim, who is from Easington, is now the proud holder of Business Admin NVQ, Level 2.

Having been with the company since start up, Kim worked on the admin of the company calling candidates and doing paperwork. The company that now employs over 30, has promoted the mum of two children aged 8 and under to the position of trainee compliance officer.

Dave Macmillan, managing director said:

“Kim is just the first of over 200 candidates we have put through apprenticeships that are due to achieve in the coming months. We are delighted with her progress and that she is the first of our 2015 candidates to get her certificate. Even better is that Kim now has the bug and will be starting her NVQ Level 3 in ITQ shortly. We also have a number of openings for more JB Skills employed apprentices, including in IT and social media!”

Kim is now a convert to the world of working apprenticeships. The former HGV Driver for the Army’s Logistics Core has had a colourful career. As well as her service in the forces, she also used to be a hairdresser qualifying from Peterlee East Durham College. But now she says she couldn’t think of a better place to work than JB Skills Training. She said:

“It is just like a family working here. Everyone looks out for each other and helps each other get on. I really felt the benefits of my training in my day to day role, and I understand my job so much more. I feel more of an asset to the team and am confident to suggest things now on better procedures. Having been with the company since the door opened, I would love to build the rest of my career here and see where it takes me!”
