Tottenham Hotspur Stadium update: Club facing £12m battle to rename station
Premier League football club Tottenham Hotspur are facing up to a potential £12m fee to change the name of White Hart Lane overground station as part of their new stadium development.
The club is hoping to rename the station, which sits a few minutes away from Spurs’ new 61,000 seater stadium, to Tottenham Hotspur station but could be forced by Transport for London (TfL) to stump up a hefty fee.
According to Squawka, the club are looking to firmly link the overground station to the club’s new £400m ground with club regalia and a walkway leading directly to club’s new home, and disassociate it from its current White Hart Lane ground.
TfL are understood to be open to the plans, but will ask the North London club to meet all associated costs with adapting signage and maps across the TfL network.
The plans to adapt White Hart Lane station were recommended for approval at a Haringey Council planning meeting on Monday, as the club look to lock in another facet of the significant redevelopment work currently underway at the site ahead of the grand opening in time for the 2018/19 season.
