Bond Dickinson takes part in IoE summit

National law firm Bond Dickinson LLP has taken part in the inaugural South West World Trade Summit, organised by the Institute of Export (IOE).

The event, held in Taunton, aimed to provide advice and guidance to business leaders in the region to help them prosper in international trade following Brexit.

Stephen Dilley, partner and expert in commercial litigation at Bond Dickinson, spoke at the event to explain the possible impact of Brexit on businesses, their trade and their employees. He explained the practical steps businesses should be considering now and provided key insight into the challenges ahead and the opportunities to be seized.

Stephen said: “Until the negotiations start in 2017, the government will continue to be in listening and planning mode. Businesses should adopt the same approach so they can be in the best possible position when we do exit the EU. For example, businesses should consider appointing a Brexit team that can assess the potential impact of leaving the EU. They also need to be thinking about the operation of contracts up and down the supply chain and consider employees’ immigration status.

“It is always best to prepare for the days of necessity. Planning now will help businesses in the South West be better prepared when the terms of Brexit become clearer.”

Other speakers at the event included representatives from The Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce and the Department for International trade, to name a few. Many businesses from the region also attended, not only those who already have a strong international presence but also those looking at foreign markets for growth.

Bond Dickinson provides legal services across a wide range of sectors including energy, manufacturing, financial services, retail, insurance, transport and private wealth. It has seven offices nationally, including Bristol where it employs more than 250 people and Plymouth where it employs more than 180 people.
